Ravishankar Rao, Executive Director

Ravishankar Rao joined the Foundation in May 2013 as Executive Director responsible for the overall management of the Foundation.

He is a senior management executive with 38 years’ experience in leading and managing organisations, providing strategic direction, ensuring good governance, carrying stakeholders along and, training, developing and motivating people. He has worked in India and in the Middle-East in functional areas covering Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and General Management of businesses related to well-known Indian and Global Brands of Consumer Electronics, Home Appliances, Industrial Consumables, Automobiles, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) & Real Estate. His most recent positions were as President at the Prestige Group, Bangalore from 2005 to 2010 and as CEO of Al Ahlia Detergent Company, Oman from 1998 to 2004.

In addition to a rich and varied career in management in the corporate world, prior to joining the Foundation, Ravishankar has been associated with the non-profit sector - in market development and resource mobilization at the Akshaya Patra Foundation, Bangalore (the world’s largest mid-day meal programme catering to 1.3 million children in 8500 Government schools across eight states in India) and in working with the management in planning and implementing better strategies, systems and processes at Rangadore Memorial Hospital, Bangalore (a 130 bed multi-specialty hospital that provides quality healthcare at affordable cost).

Ravishankar has an MBA (PGDBM) from XLRI, Jamshedpur and a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics & Economics from Loyola College, Madras University.

Dr Lalita Pulavarti, Senior Manager - Projects

Dr Lalita Pulavarti joined the Foundation in June 2011 as Senior Programme Officer. She has extensive and varied professional experience in social research, quantitative and qualitative methodologies, survey research, data management and analysis. Before joining the Foundation, Lalita worked for two years as a Senior Health Policy Analyst at the Division of Health Care Finance and Policy, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA. Prior to this, Lalita worked for ten years as a Senior Research and Program Manager at the Boston Police Department, City of Boston, USA. In this role, she served as the lead Data Manager in developing and implementing efficient data collection and dissemination procedures, and facilitated the use of data by internal and external end-users.

At the Foundation, Lalita has used her expertise in research methodologies to successfully complete various projects such as the Socio-Economic Benefit Assessment of the 24/7 Water project in four cities in Karnataka (for the World Bank) and the Bihar Citizen Report Card (for DFID, UK).

Lalita has a Ph D in Sociology from Northeastern University, Boston, USA and a Master of Public Health (MPH – Biostatistics and Epidemiology) from Boston University, USA for which she was awarded the Community Scholarship by Boston University and the City of Boston. Lalita's doctoral dissertation dealt with the contribution of local NGOs to the empowerment of women at the grassroots in India.

Narendra L V, Manager - Projects

Narendra joined the Foundation in July 2015 as Manager - Projects. He has varied professional experience in social development, non-profit, and corporate sectors [including fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and software] and has handled projects in India, South and South East Asia.

His prior experience includes assignments as a Senior Program Manager for two years at Kavin Corporation, Bangalore where he was responsible for development and implementation of an innovation project funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF); as a Research Manager for over three years with Sigma Research & Consulting, Bangalore where he handled research and operations for various national health and non-health domain evaluations, assessments, social audits and studies in India such as National Family Health Suy (NFHS), Integrated Behavioral and Biological Assessment (IBBA), National Behavioral Surveillance Survey (BSS), Rural/Urban Health & Economics; and with Hindustan Unilever Limited for over five years, first as a Consumer Connections Project-in-Charge managing data collection, planning and executing research projects, training, and producing reports, and then as a Consumer & Market Insights Executive.

He has a Masters Degree in Sociology from Mysore University and a Diploma in Instrumentation Technology from the Department of Technical Education.

Sowmya Rajan, Executive (HR , Administration & Accounts)

Sowmya joined the Foundation in August 2012 as Executive - HR & Administration; she also handles Accounts since 2013. She earlier worked for a year at ICICI Bank's Home Finance Division, enabling buyers obtain home loans, and for two years at Zenith Software, as Quality Assurance Supervisor. Sowmya holds a Bachelors Degree in Commerce from Kerala University and a Masters Diploma in Business Administration from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies, Pune.
